Creative Food Cycles

Creative Food Cycles (CFC) is a project co-financed by the Creative Europe Program of the European Union with the aim of developing a cultural and holistic approach to our interaction with food, joining all aspects of the food cycle: from production to distribution (phase 1), from distribution to consumption (phase 2) and from consumption to waste (phase 3). This also means stimulating, with an open and inclusive approach, a deeper interconnection between cultural creators, cultural professionals, institutional actors and active urban society.

The necessary radical change for the pursuit of sustainable development goals requires a creative attitude capable of reinterpreting the reality that surrounds us and the objects of daily life. Among these, the issue of food waste represents a fertile field both for experimentation and for a full understanding of the relationship between ethical elements and new aesthetic dimensions. Considering food waste as an opportunity to develop new products and materials is an urgency, to which architects, designers and artists are called to respond, configuring new design experiences that start from discarded products and waste, to become resources, and making what is sustainable more attractive thanks to a design based on creativity and conviviality. The inclusion of the widest possible audience in this process also allows the themes of the circular economy to be brought into the activities of daily life.

The goal is to explore the process that brings food from consumption to disposal, offering new potentials of meaning and spatial combination in the reinterpretation of design, but also to explore the experiences in which food surpluses become new material - from organic food waste to the creation of new industrial materials - and food waste and packaging are transformed into real products for consumers.
